Rishtan, one of the cities of the Fergana Velley, colated on the great Silk Road, is the most famous ancient center of pottery not only in Uzbekistan, but throughout Central Asia. Glory was brought to him by blue and white ceramics, as if absorbing all the shades of the sky, flowing waters and transparent air. In our age of high technologies and the Internet, pottery machines are still spinning in Rishtan, the fire is loudly roaring in the kilns, and the masters dip their brushes in bowls of paint in order to apply a pattern to the surface of the dishes with a confident hand, which will delight after firing with its heavenly blue color, a scarrering of emeralds.

For a long time, Rishtan people adhere to the rule-to transfer the secrets of their favorite craft from father to son. One of the young dynasties is Nazirov family: brother Alisher and Bakhtiyor, as well as Bakhtiyor’s son, Diyorbek. Despite the fact that the brothers are first generation potters, their work is well known both at home and far beyond its borders.

In 2012, at the Memorial Museum Kamoliddin Bekhzod of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, his first personal exhibition “Blue Ceramic of Rishtan” took place, at which the master declared himself as a mature artist with his own recognizable handwriting .

In November 2021, the second solo exhibition opened in the Japanese city of Mashiko. The experience gained over the years, Bakhtiyor passes on to his son Diyorbek, the successor of the family business.

The peculiarity of Bakhityor Nazirov’s ceramics lies in the variety of forms, the preservation of the ancient technology of Ishkhor irrigation and the tradition of brush painting. The truly Rishtan style is like flying smooth lines, large, recognizable patterns, but not repeating in details. Bakhityor Nazirov mastered the painting technology to perfectation. The color of the works, dominated by noble cobalt and heavenly turquoise, is also fascinating.

Being a representative of Bakhtiyor Nazirov in Japan, Nippondo welcomes you to visit a creative workshop of Bakhtiyor Nazirov.
