School History
Since 1998 Japanese language school “Noriko Gakkyu Class” has been working in Rishtan district. This school was established by Nazirov Ganisher and citizen of Japan, Mr. Oosaki Shigekatsu, who worked as a chief specialist in the Japanese company Komatsu (1994-1996), which participated in the construction of the Uz-Daewoo automobile factory.
Current activities and goals
“Noriko Gakkyu Class” is free of charge and primarily for children from low-income families. Lessons in the Japanese circle are spent in free time after training in an ordinary school. Here they teach not only Japanese, but also learn a lot about the history and ancient culture of Japan.
In order to support the school and attract volunteer teachers from Japan, in 2001 the Rishtan-Japan Cultural and Economic Center was established. The aims and objectives of the Center are the formation and development of cultural, economic and educational links between public organizations and enterprises of Uzbekistan and Japan.
Currently, the Center has established close relations with Japanese public organizations and schools, such as Embassy of Japan, JICA, Fukushima – Society of Uzbekistan, Nihon-Uzbekistan Association, Japan Foundation, Uzbekistan-Japan Center and others.
Noriko Gakkyu Class is quite well known in Japan, thanks to the Japanese media and TV. (NHK, TBS, Fuji TV, TV-Tokyo, etc.) They often visited Rishtan and filmed material about the Center.
At the invitation of the Mayor of Tomioka Prefecture, representatives of the Center visited the prefecture in October 2016.
During the visit, negotiations were held on the prospects for cooperation between the two cities, Rishtan and Tomioka with Mayor Mr. Iwai K., who fully supported the initiative to develop cooperation with Rishtan District and expressed readiness to provide any necessary assistance. It was agreed to establish “sister cities” relations in the future.
Rishtan-Japanese Center has the necessary infrastructure, as well as full support of the administration of the Rishtan District.According to the decision of the Head of the Rishtan District Administration No. 175 from 24th of January 2018,
the Rishtan-Japanese Center was allocated lease of 3.5 hectares of land for duration of 49 years to create an educational and experimental farmland by attracting Japanese advanced technologies in order to cultivate various kinds of Japanese vegetables and seeds and development of sericulture.
We really have a deep appreciation of the Japanese people and culture. We are sure that the relations between our countries will further develop dynamically. And the Center will do its part towards that goal.
